Section 2

What data we collect and why

Newsletter sign-up

If you sign up to the Canine Origins newsletter, we collect your first name and email address. We use this to send you the newsletter and occasional updates about new tools, resources, and content.

We use double opt-in — you will receive a confirmation email before being added to any mailing list. This means we only contact people who have actively confirmed they want to hear from us.

Legal basis: Explicit consent (Article 6(1)(a) UK GDPR). You can withdraw this consent at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email.

Quiz results by email

If you choose to receive your quiz results by email, we collect your email address to send the results. This is entirely optional — you can view results without providing an email.

Legal basis: Consent and legitimate interest in delivering the service you requested.

Providing your email for quiz results does not automatically add you to the newsletter. We will only add you to any mailing list with your explicit separate consent.

Quiz responses

Quiz answers are processed locally in your browser to calculate your result. If you do not provide an email address, no quiz data is stored or transmitted to us in any identifiable form.

If you provide an email to receive results, your result profile and score summary are submitted alongside your email address via Netlify Forms (see Section 4).

Future communications

Canine Origins is building a range of educational content including ebooks, online courses, and a book titled On the Origin of Dogs: Man's Best Mistake. If you have consented to receive our newsletter, we may contact you about these when they become available.

We will never contact you about third-party products or services, and we will never sell or share your contact details for marketing purposes.

Netlify server logs

Our website is hosted by Netlify. Netlify automatically logs server access data including IP addresses and browser information for security and infrastructure purposes. This data is retained and processed by Netlify under their own privacy policy. We do not access or use this data for marketing or analytics.

Section 3

Third-party services we use

We use a small number of third-party tools to operate this site. We have chosen each one for its reliability, its GDPR compliance, and the minimal data it requires.

📧 MailerLite — Email delivery

We use MailerLite to manage our mailing list and send newsletters and email updates. When you sign up to our newsletter or request quiz results by email, your data is stored in MailerLite.

MailerLite is GDPR-compliant and processes data under a Data Processing Agreement with us. Your data is stored on MailerLite's servers, which may be located in the EU or USA (under appropriate safeguards).

You can unsubscribe from all emails via the unsubscribe link in any email, which removes you from MailerLite immediately.
